nykirasims rated Oathbreaker: Season 2

nykirasims rated a game 2 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux.

I know (for some reason that I must've missed) that this is being rushed to its end, and I hate that I can TELL it's being rushed to its end. It's particularly unfortunate because of the imbalance when it comes to relationships (for example, Gandea gets VERY little time with MC if that's your RO/father of your child) and the inevitable stones that will be left unturned unless the final chapter is just a plothole-filling palooza...

The other thing that caused me to knock this rating down some is that there are some continuity-type errors when it comes to certain relationships/situations. I noticed that these are particularly prevalent if you play a MC who isn't happy with Marianne's existence and has no interest in helping her. There is a scene at the inn where she slaps MC, which should've created more issues, yet they interact in future scenes like nothing ever happened and they get along. It really feels like it was written without considering/incorporating a tumultuous relationship between Marianne and MC.

I also thought it was kind of strange that Virion's dialogue when talking to Ruven (and some other places too) is the dialogue you get on the friend route even if you're a MC who birthed his child after a one night stand because in that scenario, Virion isn't necessarily sticking with MC just because he would follow her anywhere, but because his daughter is in danger and he would do anything to protect her.

I'm sure there are other situations I can think of, but those are the ones that come to mind rn.

I also wish there could've been a more fleshed out branch for Raelan-romancing MCs who are having a lot of difficulty with the situation that they're in, who don't really feel comfortable treating their daughter like a bastard (because let's be real, MC talks so much about how the court and the country would react/treat their daughter because she's a bastard, but by forcing Raelan to stay away, discouraging him even connecting with her as a "friend" of Mama's, refusing to acknowledge who her father is, etc., MC is effectively treating her child like a bastard). I would've loved to see a branch for Raelan-romancing MCs who are angry and do want something more, which is oddly enough only something you can get to see a little of if you decide to leave Raelan for Virion.

It's a shame this was rushed through because it left a lot to be desired, which was a huge disappointment given how much I enjoyed S1's story, romance, and character development.
