It's a good game. Good characters, art, fun system and hours upon hours of gameplay. Deserves 5 stars.
Cove, the main boy, is sweet and you get customizability to some degree. You also get to choose how much and when to get close with him, basically setting the pace of the game to your preference and choosing the level of consent needed for stuff like physical touch. The game doesn't punish you for being you, and the characters adapt to the person you are without judgement. I could play a quiet, anxious person, or a brash, outgoing one, and I could choose to be completely indifferent to Cove the whole time and he'd respect it. He somewhat matches your energy based on how you set your character's feelings for him, so there's no unrequited feelings. Good stuff.
Only thing is that there was a lot of superficial choices, which wasn't my cup of tea. Made replaying the game really tedious too. I appreciate that it was done with the intent of allowing the user a lot of freedom of choice. But having to choose individual ingredients for a sandwich, crepe, etc. was fun only the first time when you're staring at a bunch of words that also don't have any lasting impact.
Unrelated to the nitty gritty of the gameplay, I also appreciate all the representation. As someone on the spectrum, I had the sense of "are they...?" regarding one character and it was then confirmed. People of different gender identity, sexual orientation, race, and a great variety of personalities all shine as a part of the cast and are respected as individuals. I was really genuinely surprised at getting two moms and someone with ASD in the lineup.
This game had a clear vision of what it wanted to be and accomplished it uniquely, and with clear passion on the dev's part.
