Trabul Twins GameDev rated Speed Metal Vimana

A downloadable game for Windows and Linux.

I quite liked it! I had a feeling I would like it when I read the description, it's a surprisingly well-made VN, I like the little extra art CGs for the fight scenes, and the banter between Mars and Shiva was quite cute too. That's the part that makes the VN for me.

I guess that the scroll style message box would not work with some people, but I think it's supposed to mimic the display board inside a mech? I can read the text fine, so I have no problems. I think it is an interesting way to not have the same character art CG appear on screen for a long time (Mars and Shiva have some long scenes together)

Gameplay wise the game is mostly point and click, with interactions between "inspect" and "interact". Most of the parts are intuitive, though I think that some small bits of the story might get missed out e.g imaginary pirates in the sewers if you don't swap between modes constantly. Perhaps a keyboard swap function or a lock in mode would work better, because at the door before the cafe I had to swap modes a few times because it went back to "interact".

Oddly enough, the fight scenes were the weakest part of the VN. I was expecting mechs, though it suddenly popped out of nowhere in the cafe. Maybe a good time for foreshadowing is to show Vimana in the garage. I think a way to improve them are definitely small sound effects (e.g metal clashing for impact), delay on messages appearing (I can scroll through fight scene way faster than it is intended to go), and possibly some screen effects. (screen shake, the cut in for the fight with top hat is done well as I mentioned above)

I like the roguish cyberpunk feel Speed Metal Vimana's main characters have, am very glad to have read it! (after multiple failed downloads lol)
