JadePerardua rated RogueViz

A downloadable demo for Windows.

When I started playing the tutorial, it sent me to the Zeno Rogue section, and had me play through a very brain expanding basic roguelike with very intuitive rules and an expansive set of areas which felt interesting to find. At some point I stopped listening to the tutorial (it's effectively opt in via pressing enter) and just started playing the game until I died. Then I thought to myself "Wow, that was incredible, I wonder what else is in this."

And I opened the settings, and found "Special Modes".

...

Needless to say, I am astounded, and absolutely ecstatic. I feel like this raises the bar for settings in video games. I will probably be playing with this for the rest of my life.

(After further playing)

Okay so here's the deal, still probably going to play this for the rest of my life, but the controls when navigating many things are confusing, I will say that. A lot of the intuitiveness which I felt when playing the rogue portion seemed to fly out the window when checking out a few demos and when just using the scroll wheel in the menu in certain areas.

I honestly think that this is one of the most fascinating engines I have ever played with, that being said, the controls could be more intuitive, the submenus could have individual defaults so that you don't have to reset every single configuration when you mess something up, and I can't figure out where the music and volume sliders are.  Still an amazing experience though, absolutely worth checking out.  -Erinnis
