StabOfHappiness rated Don't Watch the Moon

A browser game made in HTML5.

What a lovely game! Prokopetz didn't point me wrong.

I'd say the game's greatest strengths lie in its art and sound. The visuals, especially the first moment when I realized the bun didn't look the same in the moonlight. Also had a wonderful moment where I saw the Moose leap out of the Moon from out of the corner of my eye. Immediate (fun, consensual) anxiety!

I was also a big fan of the way the spirits looked and moved. I often had moments where I thought they looked vaguely familiar in their biology, but something threw me off. Biggest wins in my book were the first one ("Is that an elder thing?"), the one that follows after you while you're under the moose, and the Bear-Eater.

I also really enjoy the fairy tale feel of this story for most of its run. Talking animals. Spirits. Illusions. Wonderful stuff!

Tearing off the big spirit's tentacles was kinda silly. Who are you, Eli? Dr. Livesey's son? You've got the walk down pat.

I have exactly one major complaint, and it happens right at the end: the forms taken by Veritas and the Moose (already forgot his name, sorry), and they both have basically the exact same problem: "I've seen this before."

The Moose, while fortunately NOT an ithaquan/w*ndigo ("Cool design! Not remotely accurate or respectful of the creators, but I like the burnt-off feet!"), is still very much a Satan/Krampus, right down to the pentagon symbol magic silliness. I was expecting something far more distressing and weird, and the true form was something so familiar and, dare I say, corny.

And then Veritas is, well, Cthulhu.

In the woods.

Being all green and whatnot.

I would have probably gone with something more along the lines of the Special Trees or Horned Serpent from the Monument Mythos. Closer in appearance to the spirits, at least.

Aside from that, can't complain! Good work, my guy!
