This is *not* Spelunky, *nor* is it La Mulana. Roving in the Dark may at first glance have similarities to those, due to its spelunking nature, but trust me - there's been *plenty* of Spelunking games over the decades (ranging from H.E.R.O. to Montezuma's Revenge, Spelunker, Goonies II (to a certain extent), et al.). What Roving in the Dark offers, is a nicely sized adventure with a likable protagonist (kinda reminds me of Rick Dangerous), well-designed levels, excellent platforming and controls, with various tools needed in order to progress, thus constantly giving the game momentum, all the while you need to keep an eye on the batteries for your torchlight and awards hazards. There's a nice variety of hazards and enemies, coupled with pleasant aesthetics. Overall it's a pleasant experience that may not bring that much 'new' to the table, but it does bring forward a gem of a game, with near flawless execution and a very nice change of pace from all the Metroidvania's out there, which demands weeks, if not years of dedication. Even so, I am hoping for a sequel, because this clearly has potential for more adventures in the same vein.
