PublicLewdness rated The Longest Walk

PublicLewdness rated a biographical game 3 years ago
A downloadable biographical game for Windows.

The Longest Walk did a great job in telling a worthwhile story. My only real complaint is that with walking sims like this the environment can play a large part in the experience and in this case it was strange. I liked how the world around you sort of sprung up as you traversed through it but it seemed to lack detail. I actually thought it was a graphical glitch until I looked at more screenshots. This didn’t ruin the game but a stronger environment could have added to an already great story. As it was this could have been reduced to an audio recording with a black screen and almost had the same effect. I also would recommend to not have the Esc key quit the game as most games use that key to bring up a main menu instead. When you have no save system this is a bad idea.

I played The Longest Walk on Linux using Wine. It never crashed and I didn’t notice any spelling errors. There is no saves at all nor is there any options at all. You can’t disable subtitles either. Since the game lacks a v-sync option some people have noticed that their GPUs ran at 100% and got very hot because it was rendering the game at high frame rates. I saw these high frame rates but I also saw some very low ones that was strange given the visual quality not justifying them.

Game Engine: Unreal Engine
Graphics API: DXVK
Disk Space Used: 601 MB

GPU Usage: 0-100 %
VRAM Usage: 1107-1143 MB
CPU Usage: 18-26 %
RAM Usage: 2.9-3.4 GB
Frame Rate: 34-210 FPS

Overall I do recommend The Longest Walk. Despite some technical short comings the strength of the story carries it and made it enjoyable. I finished the game in twenty minutes.

My Score: 8/10
