A downloadable Thing.
Overall:
Hum... not gonna lie, that wasn't my best experience.
First to give respect where it's due, the visuals looked good, and the overall art style is consistent. Sound blends in as well.
The problems are the meatball is HARD to control, and the world feels.... dead. The good news though is, I think it could get better and here is how:
Feedback (to go even further beyond!!!):
To make this game go to the next level, here are some important points I feel need to be covered:
- Player Controller: if the Meatball is hard to control, you're not fighting against the game. You're fighting against yourself, and it's an opponent who will follow you during your whole playthrough... which isn't something you look forward too. The better your Meatball feels to control, the more fun it would be to play your game.
- Impactful Destruction: As I understand, the whole point of the game is to explore the world and destroy things based on the physics engine, right? Well... when you destroy something... it doesn't really feel impactful... To fix this, you could add more sound effects, maybe even particle effects or some kind of animation to give the dopamine boost to the player. He has to know that something happened! If it's impressive, he'll be tempted to do it again!
- Lively world: The world feels, lifeless now. The only thing I saw moving were planes but other than that, all the inhabitants feel like figurine that were placed here and do nothing. No reaction even if you crash into their house, no scream, no running away, nothing. They won't even look at you. It feels like you're the only being alive in this world and that's not a good feeling. To fix this, you add interactions to them. Maybe NPCs could have a random walking routing instead of standing still. They could also look at the meatball when it's close and try to run away from it, while also screaming to make it more believable.
- Police system: You are almighty in this world. No matter what you do, nothing can stop you, or slow down apart from controls... which doesn't give much of a challenge. Having a police system like in GTA would make things spicier. Now, you'll see the world actually fight back! Along with this element, I think you would have a complete game, and a great one in fact!
Last word:
You know, I'm really not bringing up all these points to make you feel bad. Game dev is hard, I understand that. Added to that, this is a game jam entry made in 2 days so, of course a lot of things aren't on point. I'm just giving you this feedback because I feel like these things could really take your game to the next level if you ever decided to make something more serious with it. If I just pass by saying "everything was good" while I have seen the flaws in your project, it means you won't fix it later and you lose an opportunity to grow.
I really hope you don't take it too personal and try to see the points I brought up. I wish you a lot of luck on your game dev journey!
