Auburn Arcana rated WitchWay

A downloadable game for Windows.

WitchWay is a somewhat short puzzle platformer that relies heavily on the use of a wand to move blocks around. A cute witch has fallen down a well, and the goal is to help her escape - of course, while collecting the bunnies and finding the eye glyphs along the way.
Although it is a short game, the simple gameplay mechanics were very interesting to play with. Moving blocks around has a surprising amount of depth when combined with platforming such as the grass area, blasting webs in the library area, or avoiding traps in the special rooms. I would have been eager to see more mechanics and length in the game, but I can appreciate it for what it is.
(What ideas I most immediately had were already shown with scraps of what would have been WitchWay 2. Co-op, more zones, and diagonal objects (or even the free rotation in the GIF) would be excellent, as would launch pads or orb-like projectiles that work like beams.)
The only gameplay issue that I had was that my Pro controller didn't work with it, which didn't cause me any substantial issues. The keyboard worked excellently with the simple control scheme.
Apart from the gameplay, I enjoyed the music greatly. Even if I got stuck in a particular area, it didn't bother me because it meant more opportunity to listen to the soundtrack. My favorite piece was the one that played in the map room and the artifact chambers.
I also noticed voice clips from the witch, especially when jumping. They did what they were made for without overdoing it, which I liked!
Of course, the art style itself was also incredibly appealing. It seems simple due to the highly pixelated, low-bit style, but it's very colorful and cute nonetheless. It was a large part of my interest in exploring everything, not to mention finding the bunnies.
In summary, WitchWay is a short but sweet game with plenty of love put into it. Although I got the game with the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality, the pricing is very reasonable for what I got out of it. I strongly recommend this one!
Did I mention that this game has a cute witch?
