M Avery-Weir rated Black Closet

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

This game is cool, weird, and difficult. I've had one playthrough that I lost in and am in a second one that's going better. I like that there's enough similarities between types of cases that I feel like I can get the hang of things, but there's enough variation that I don't get bored. There's a rhythm to playing this (the weekly pacing, the larger plot) that works well.

Story-wise, it's intriguing and cute so far, but I haven't seen spring or the finish of a school year yet (if it goes that far). I love the personalities of the characters, and the game's aesthetic is right in line with the story that's developing. I've barely made it past picking a "queen" in either of my playthroughs, so I can't fully speak to any of the romantic entanglements.

Seeing some of the achievements in the game gave me a good hint as to some of the strange directions this game can go, and I'm looking forward to exploring them.
