Sundust rated SinsationsVN - Demo

Sundust rated a game 3 years ago
A downloadable game.

{This review is for the full game and contains spoilers}:

I can't believe I haven't rated this yet. I love the concept of the Deadly Sins as reincarnated people from hell. The best part of this game is how each 'sin'  feels like a real person with levels and nuance.  They each have traits that we might not associate with their sin. {minor spoilers ahead} For example, Pride, Greed (only to Kosuke and his employees), and Sloth are generous. It fits with their characters and doesn't change them into good people. They will never be saints, they just do good things sometimes. It really brings an aspect of believability to them because no one is entirely good or bad. The hardworking Envy and Gluttony are no less envious or gluttonous. The serenity of Wrath serves only to make him appear more deadly.

It is truly a pleasure to read through and attempt to help Kosuke (a complex character in his own right) form deep relationships with these characters while on a tight deadline. There are many scenes that I enjoy thinking about from a literary perspective. Some of these scenes would include,  Charity Case's and Pride's interactions are so impressed with how they balance the appearance of friendship/cordiality while making subtle digs at each other the whole time. The morality discussion with Wrath would be another. Kosuke's false promises of later returning to the sins who needed to hear that makes sense, as does his inability to go back to a sin he doesn't date last. Would it be nice for him to have a choice? Yes. However, on my nth playthrough, it starts to seem like the other sins know the reunion promises are false. It's beginning to seem like they wouldn't be able to handle Kosuke returning well, at this point in their lives.  Maybe I'm just doing too many close readings for university (which I'm almost done :), but I really think this game's writing deserves to be thought about at the very least. I would give it awards if I could.

In short,  I love this game, think it's amazingly well written, and have played it several times. I also appreciate that SFW mode does not feel like missing out on any essential story. In addition, the music and voices are well executed. Thank you for reading my gushing.
