ahnkra rated Heart Of Amethyst

ahnkra rated a game 3 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Was a good read, only to get better Im sure as its written.  I did take issue with a few things. I personally didnt enjoy being forced into attempted thievery.  It was not even as if the MC was utterly desperate and had no choice, ie needed the coin to eat or have a place to live, or pay for medicine to save some ones life.  It was simply a plot mechanic to get the MC where the writer wanted them, but was out of place considering the characters background and the underlining meta about who the MC is/will be (this is not yet fully disclosed in the story so I could be reading into it the wrong way, only time will tell.)

I also didnt enjoy the extended lore dump with the magical map or the combat lessons, particularly with sword guy.  That guy is a ton of mean and took a cheap shot at the MC at the start (kicking someone when they are already down just shows a real meanness of spirit) and thats a grudge I wouldnt let go of IRL.  Moreover I didnt enjoy the mini game either.  You have to keep playing it until you pass it (trust me I know i tried to fail it multiple times just to move on and it wouldnt) although I was able to throw the fight that training is supposed to get you ready for (because after the talk the opponent has with the MC about the misery their stupid choice created for them and alot of other people, I did feel guilty about it and would have purposely let him have his revenge if only so he felt a bit better about it.)  And also because what is the point of having "three guardians" if the MC has to learn everything and do everything for them self?  Might as well add that the Princess is just a really unneccesary headache.

All that said, the MC was actually very believable and fun to play as, and two of the three LIs really were likable.  Also there are some cute and sweet side characters and the actual main story line so far has been really interesting (when it doesnt get bogged down into religion and history lessons, either less is more, or spread it out so that it comes up naturally and players will be alot less tempted to click click click through it to get back to the story line.)
