I cannot stress enough how absolutely amazing this system is. I have two kids under 10 and a wife that I have been running games in No Thank You, Evil from Monte Cooke Games with. While I adore that system, it's a little... monotonous?... as a GM. There's a LOT of prepwork for me, and a lot of having to do ground work I have to lay to come up with, especially with children present. There's an inherent balancing of what is or is not too complex or too long or too boring for them. I've taken to just using the RPG Sidequest Decks from Inkwell Studios. While this has alleviated a lot of my prepwork, it makes it somehow more boring for them.
I actually came across Gila RPGs via a kickstarter for NOVA. I backed it 100% for the artwork and vibe. I honestly didn't read much about it. It was just exactly the vibe I was looking for. And then I promptly forgot about it until it arrived on my doorstep. So, obviously, I had to actually read through the ruleset and holy crap. I was in love. It was *perfect* to supplant the rules of NTYE. Oh, what's this, their's an Itch.io?
And then I discovered LIGHT... as someone who has a few hundred hours in Destiny and a lifelong love of TTRPGs, instant curiosity. The core system is Lumen, the same core system of NOVA, but there's so much more baked in. The concept of making Strikes a thing? Works PERFECTLY with the sidequest decks. Oh, there's bounties and rewards? That solves the issue of using the decks being too boring and monotonous for the players, there's always something to look forward to. And while the system is VERY similar to the cyber system, similar enough that it only took a few minutes of explaining the difference for a 6 and 8 year old to understand, it feels SOOOO much more appropriate. I'm not constantly having to dictate the actions of NPCs/Enemies, or trying to judge how hard I think a task should be. Everything is so much more natural.
And almost all the supplements are are equally amazing and they all add a nice layer of complexity I can add or fold in as they get the hang of mechanics, much like how NTYE has the ability to layer in complexity as well. Basically, this system takes *everything* I love about NTYE throws into a single system that fixes *everything* I despise about NTYE. There's still a few hold over components from NTYE that made it into my homebrew setting, and because of Gila, I feel inspired to get everything down on paper and try to publish it and share it to everyone else with kids.
With absolute sincerity, and not trying to lay it too thick, thank you for making a system that just works for me and my family. I only get to see my kids every other weekend, and this system gives them something to look forward to when they're at my house.
