Day 5 - Input Systems, Animation & Rule Tiles

Day 5 - Input Systems, Animations, Rule Tiles

Quite a lot of 'meaty' stuff in the lectures I watched today. I had a bit of work going on in the house today too so I feel like my learning was quite interrupted.

Input Systems

This course now moved from using what they called the 'legacy' input controls to the newer input system, which was a little more work to get set up, but I can see how its a lot more functional. I will need to spend some time with it.

Animations + associated movements.

I played about with this for a good bit, the course had me implement an idle animation, running animation and climbing animation. I worked out the coding for implementing the climbing on my own and really felt like I am getting used to working in the engine.

Rule Tiles

WOW! Rule tiles are super cool and made painting a platformer level super fun. I can see how this would be useful for quickly building expansive level maps.

With only a few hours left in this course, I expect to be finished by the end of the weekend. I'll definitely finish this platformer by tomorrow. When I finish the course, I think I'm going to try one of my own projects, then try the 'rpg course'.
