The first Historically Accurate Game Jam was held December 28, 2019. It ran for a period of eight days during which time 12 games were submitted. The game jam has since grown. Historically Accurate Game Jam 5 had an incredible 113 games submitted with nearly 1300 ratings given out by participants.
For each jam since, a specific theme has been given. This theme allows participants to explore a part of history they might not have considered much before. The jam’s founder, Holmgang, felt the themes were a great opportunity to explore something new.
Themes are suggested by, then voted on by jam participants. Past themes have been as generic as “Your Country’s History,” but have also been more specific like “Cold War” or “Industrial Revolution.” Each participant creates games based on those themes in the allotted timeframe.
Historically Accurate Game Jam 9 ran from 26 July to 04 August, 2024. The jam saw 13 entries centered around the general theme of “Espionage in the 19th Century”.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 8 ran from 19 to 29 July, 2024. The jam saw 27 entries centered around the general theme of “Famous Assassinations”.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 7 ran from 21 to 31 July, 2023. The jam saw 28 entries centered around the general theme of “Revolts”.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 6 ran from 30 December, 2022 to 8 January, 2023. The jam saw 28 entries centered around the general theme of “Industrial Revolution”.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 5 ran from 31 December, 2021 to 8 January, 2022. The jam saw 113 entries centered around the general theme of “Your Country’s History”.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 4 ran from 18 to 27 June, 2022. The jam saw 78 entries centered around the general theme of “Mythology”.

Held from 26 December, 2020 to 3 January, 2021, Historically Accurate Game Jam 3 had 79 entries. The theme for HAGJ3 was “Cold War”. The top three game developers received a copy of Pendragon, by Inkle Games.

Historically Accurate Game Jam 6 ran from 31 December, 2022 to 8 January, 2023. The jam saw 113 entries centered around the general theme of “The Black Death.”

The very first Historically Accurate Game Jam, hosted by Holmgang started on 28 December, 2019. The first ever HAGJ received 12 entries within the week-long time frame. The theme was simply to create a game based on something in history. Each game was ranked against four criteria:
