Group AAA game - Dev Log week 1

Hello everyone! Welcome back to my series of dev blogs. Last time I did a series of dev blogs was when I was working with a group on developing an indie game, In the end we were able to release the game and I achieved a passing grade.

Now I am back with a whole new project, this time I am working with a much larger team (across two different campuses) on a vertical slice for a AAA sized game. Instead of being a lead like last time I am now on the design team, specifically working on UI (User Interface) throughout the whole game, I haven't done a lot of work with any sort of UI design in the past but I feel like this design pathway is just right for me.

First thing we started on was creating a game concept, the group decided on a game where you play as an priest fighting your way through hell, this would also be a turn based RPG. Once we decided on that we delved deeper into creating a unique combat system for the game that would separate it from other RPGS and we decided that the game would heavily rely on DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) style gameplay.

Once we decided on this I went off and created some very early video concepts based on how the combat might look like in game.

As you can most likely tell, these are some VERY basic concepts that are just meant to show how combat could work in the game and how the DDR mechanic could be pulled off, It is very obvious that the final game will look nothing like this, but this is still quite useful so that other members on the team will be able to visualise how combat could potentially look like and provide more ideas to improve on it.

For the next week I am planning on creating some concept UI while the player is in combat e.g. Health bar, Combat UI etc.

That's all for this week, Thank you for reading!
