Group indie game - Dev log Week 3

Hello again! This is my third dev log for our indie game development project in this log I will be going through everything I've done in the past week (Unlike last week I was able to meet up with the rest of the team today)

As well as overseeing development of the music and sound effects department I also finished this weeks team scrum report which states what all our team members have done this week as well as going through all of their upcoming tasks, but this week I have started working on a new project, a game design document.

A game design document (Otherwise known as GDD) is a document that outlines a games features and goes in-depth with them, this document will talk about the gameplay, story, features, mechanics and more. The purpose of a GDD is so that we don't lose track of the game we are making, for example increasing the scope of the game, adding new mechanics and changing major parts of the game that we have already started working on. A GDD helps us make sure that none of these things happen too frequently by setting in stone what we have to do. A GDD is also a good way of showing your game idea to other people when the actual game isn't finished yet.

I started our GDD by writing a small description of the game, this just summarises the whole game into a single paragraph. The first thing I stared to go in depth with was the gameplay, I outlined what's the main gameplay loop and what the main goal of the game is. Within the gameplay section I also included what games it is similar too so that the people reading the document understand how the game could play like without having to actually play it.

Within the next few weeks I will continue to expand this GDD by writing about the other sections of the game but that's all for this week.

Thanks for reading!
