When I start the game (either from the .exe or the shortcut), all I see is a tessellated scrolling background and it makes a noise, but I see no menu. It also makes a sound when I press the spacebar, and if I press escape it goes into windowed mode. Other than that I can't do anything. It looks like an interesting game but I can't play it :(

This is on Windows 10 Pro (Version 10.0.18362 Build 18362)

iirc the bug is usually caused by a second joystick input that makes the game's camera hold a NaN value. it sounds like you were trying to play with keyboard, but is it possible you had controller connected? or perhaps the game was picking up an old bluetooth controller connection that didn't disconnect properly?

Ah, that was the issue. I got rid of all the extra input devices and it works, thanks!
