An Idea For Next Charity Bundle

I know it's rather unconventional for me to make a suggestion like this, but I felt I should anyway.

The BLM Bundle was hugely successful - I think beyond what anyone expected. I wanted to suggest doing another similar charity supporting Black Trans & Queer Organisations.

The reason I suggest this is because these organisations get far less recognition and support and they support people who deal with both anti-Blackness and queer/transphobia; and with both the US and UK governments mounting an attack on trans rights lately, which will disproportionately affect Black trans people, I feel this may be more important than ever.

I have yet to see any truly large-scale charity endeavours towards these organisations and I thought that perhaps itch.io could do something similar to the previous bundle to raise money for these overlooked orgs. I understand that organising something like the previous bundle is a huge endeavour, but even if this is a smaller bundle, it can still make a huge difference - every bit helps. I think there are many independent game developers who would be more than willing to help with this. If it's too early to do another bundle, then this can still be done at a later stage. The organisations will always need the support.

Some good organisations that could be supported with this bundle include The Okra Project, the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, GLITS, For the Gworls, Black Trans Femmes in the Arts, the Audre Lorde Project, House of GG, Black Transmen Inc., Black Visions Collective, and National Black Justice Coalition.

Another option, while not specifically a Black trans/queer org, Mermaids Gender in the UK is a worthy cause doing a lot of good work to protect trans youth whose rights are consistently under threat, which disproportionately affects Black trans youth.

I know this idea is a lot to ask, but I really believe in itch.io's power to help - the BLM bundle proved that potential beyond our wildest dreams - and Black trans and queer people really need the support, especially as they are so frequently overlooked and experience significant amounts of both anti-Blackness and queer/transphobia.

Please do consider this. If it becomes a reality, it will quite literally save the lives of countless Black trans and queer folk, whose livelihoods are in constant danger.

Sending you all so much love.

Hey sorry I didn’t reply sooner. Running a bundle of that size is a monumental effort. It’s been about a month since it happened and we’re still backlogged handling requests.

I recognize there are a lot of great groups that could also use that kind of support. I think it makes the most sense to ask the community to fill the gaps and host organize their own bundles. Luckily that’s just what happened here: https://itch.io/b/558/visual-novel-romance-collection-for-black-trans-lives

Thanks
