Hi there. Firstly, Asset Forge is awesome, and I really appreciate it!

I have one or two QoL improvements I'd really like:

(a) A center/floor tool so I can select blocks or even the whole model and realign it to the center and/or floor

(b) Some distance numbers on the grid, or an overlay or some other way to get global co-ordinates

(c) Maybe I'm just stupid, but I can't see (even with "global" selected) that resizing an object sizes it by fixed grid amounts rather than proportional to the current size. Maybe it's just a bug, it seems like dragging a handle to 1.0 is double the last size, neither 1.0 grids nor 100% of the original size?

(d) easily extract model positions of parts, I can guess these for now but positional data would be nice. I haven't dug into .model format, I might be able to yank it myself by hand.

(e) taller workspace than currently allowed. I was building a stack of somethings and it hit the ceiling rather earlier than I was expecting :(

Just some thoughts!

Thanks!

Thanks for your suggestions!

  1. Good one, will consider this. It'll probably be added as an option in the 'Edit' menu and allow either a selection or the complete model to be put on the floor or centered.
  2. Going to look into this, see if I can come up with a way to give better coordinates.
  3. The scaling is indeed a bit broken, this is a larger issue which I'm hoping to fix.
  4. The .model file is human readable so you should be able to extract positions from that.
  5. What do you mean by taller exactly? The only constraint is the grid height (20 meters) but you can place blocks higher.

Thanks for the quick response, you're awesome :)

On the last one, I was trying to build a 19" 42U rack which was I guess quite detailed, and it didn't like me making things very (>80) tall. it's a special case for me, it's not a general problem because I'm probably using the wrong tool to do this, but since I was building my 1U servers and switch low poly models on that same scale, it made things harder to have a "1U" server 1.7 grid units high, and then have something . I'm working around it for now, so it's really a nice to have.

Just a thanks for adding floor/center in 2.1, much appreciated!
