Itch app won't recognise previously installed games

I installed a few games before i downloaded the app, I see that you should be able to change install location and scan for games but it says there are none.

When I install new games they appear in my games folder with all the games that the app doesn't recognise.

Any fix other than deleting and re downloading through the app?

Not right now. The app doesn't manage 3rd-party existing games. It's made to interact with Itch. Other people have requested this feature, but I don't know what our dev team thinks about it.

Sorry didn't make it clear enough. They are itch games from the bundle, I just did direct download before I found one that needed the app to launch

Itch still can't guess that just by looking at the game directory. You'll have to download them again through the app.

It can see all the games as 'owned games' just not installed games. What is the point of the 'scan install location for games' button?  Anyway not a big deal at the end of the day.

I'm running into the same issue. I downloaded a bunch of itch games through my browser, only for them to not show up after a scan.

It appears that games installed through the Itch client have a "receipt.json" file, which singlehandedly handles game recognition for the client. Also, dragging the receipt of game A (downloaded through the Itch client) into the install folder of game B (not downloaded through the client) and then scanning the directory causes game B to show up as A.

Perhaps making each games individual receipt file available for download could save all the hassle. After all, we could just drag the receipts into their respecive game folders and be done with it, instead of having to download the whole thing again.
