Putting a donate option in the game itself

Hello,

Can I put a donate option, like a PayPal link or a Buymeacoffee link inside of my game (not on the itch.io page ) to let users donate me money and avoid having to deal with itch.io taxes?

I would have no problem letting itch.io take 30% of the price or whatever but the annual tax declaration and the tax interview stuff really scares me, so if possible I would like to avoid that while somehow still giving an option to people to donate me, hence the idea of putting a donate option in the game.

You can choose to be paid directly instead of Itch collecting the money. But you'd still have to deal with taxes on your end, and if you have a problem with PayPal, you're on your own. See in your account settings, under Publisher->Payout mode.

I am trying to ask if putting a donate option in a game is against itch.io TOS or not.  Because if people just donate you money that is considered to be a gift and you don't have to pay taxes for that.

First of all, please use the reply link because I almost missed yours. Second, technically that's also true if your game is pay-what-you-want, but it depends on the laws of each country. Third, I don't think it's a problem if you put your own donation option inside the game, but you should warn people there is one, and not try to track them or anything.
