When you release a game to download, do they download the entire game or does the itch.io app work more like steam?

Hi,

I want to release some games and put them up for about 2 dollars. If I set my games to download, does that mean people can just download the EXE file and do with it as they please. I know that this is a minor issue because getting a good game out there first is more important. However, I am just curious if the itch.io app is more like steam and so that the library is harder to distribute.

No, Itch doesn't apply any DRM to games, either through the app or the website. Feel free to roll your own.
