Poor Performance on Mac

Hi. I just downloaded the game and tried to start it up. It is very laggy and has a low framerate, to the point of unplayable-ness. I'm playing on a 15 inch 2017 Macbook Pro, with a 2.8 GHZ processor, 16 GB of memory, and a Radeon Pro 555 2GB graphics card. I was able to play Offpeak and Norwood Suite without any issues. I thought there would be a way to choose graphics settings on start-up.  Will there be a performance update coming in the future or graphics options? Thanks

Hi Gardenhead,

Sorry you're having an issue here.  Out of curiosity, what resolution are you running the game at?  Does your Mac give you any more performance latitude if you lower the resolution?

I'll mention I had to compile this in OpenGL to get certain shaders working, but I'll post a demo build that offers Metal as an alternative.  Once that's up, I'll let you know and you can give it a try.

Hi Cosmo,

No worries. I don't get to choose resolution on start-up, otherwise I'd lower it. The resolution of my monitor is (2560 x 1440) so I guess that.

Yup, whenever the Metals version is released I'll try that. Thanks for the games!

Hi Gardenhead,

Do you have a list of resolutions available to chang by pressing the 'Escape' key?  It should give you a list like so:

Oh, I didn't see that! I tried the lowest resolution and turned off AA, but unfortunately the performance was about the same.

I am following this thread, I am also a Mac user

@gardenhead I've uploaded a new build which runs using Apple's new Metal rendering engine.  It has some shader issues I won't be able to resolve currently, but either way, let me know if this makes a difference for you.

I downloaded the new version and it worked great! It ran smoothly, and I was able to up the resolution too. The only issue was the water looking all glitchy, which must be the shader issue you mentioned, but it didn't bother me. I played through it in one sitting and really enjoyed it! Thanks for the speedy response. Looking forward to the next one.
