You are invited to participate in a research study conducted for the 2025-2026 Kelly College Preparatory AP Research course. The purpose of this study is to find if indie developers find balance between their personal lives and game development. If you decide to participate, please complete the following survey. Your completion of this survey indicates your consent to participate in this research study. It will take about 5-10 minutes. No benefits accrue to you for answering the survey, but your responses will be collected and analyzed anonymously. Any information that is obtained in connection with this study and that can be identified with you will remain confidential and will not be disclosed. Data will be destroyed at the completion of the project. You may, at any time, opt out of the survey, and this is completely voluntary. I appreciate your help in providing responses for my research! If there are any questions or concerns, please contact AP Research instructor Christine Wilkison (candler@cps.edu).

Balancing personal life and indie development is honestly one of the toughest parts of making games. I’ve seen plenty of developers start projects with tons of energy, then realize how much time it actually demands. Having clear limits and realistic schedules seems to help a lot. Surveys like this are useful because they highlight the real challenges behind indie development.
