Thinking about doing Localization for independent games.

Hi everyone.

I feel like good independent games should be known to people from different culture backgrounds and what people have been doing about localization is far from enough. Some even messed up the basic textual stuff, which is ANNOYING. So currently I have called upon some of my friends (we all come from the same translation&interpreting school in Beijing, China) to start our own career, doing game localization of course, for small&independent games esp.

I really want to hear your thoughts on this. What's your judgement on independent game localization? Or does anyone want to be our first client XD?

BTW, we do have experiences in this field. The most famous project we participated in is Pathfinder:Kingmaker. Idk whether you have heard of this game.

Sounds interesting- we do graphic novel games- Witches and Bandits and Swords (Oh My) and The Bunny Hill Horror are on this site. And if anyone wants to manually translate them using Unity code in a different language, and upload them to that country's gamesites, then please get in touch (they're about 20,000 and 14,000 words respectively).

We could offer a 50/50 split of any money from the translated versions however, keep in mind these games have to be released for free (because of the copyright terms of our use of graphics), so any profit would have to come from advertising.

Also, do you have a website or any presence on social media (e.g. Twitter)? As a tip, I'd definitely recommend having something like to link to, as you're more likely to get clients if they know a bit more about who they're doing business with :)

Hi! We'd definitely love to translate the games. Graphic novel games are chilling and always make me nervous when I need to make choices! We have a similar game back in China and it was quite a trending one. However we are not familar with Unity :( Do you think there is a way to get over this?

This is a bit spur of the moment, so I haven't thought the whole thing through myself, in all honesty, but it would be great to have people in China play our games. Here are a couple of obstacles that I can see:

We wouldn't know which sites to put the game out in China (whether indie sites like itch and Gamejolt, casual sites like Kongregate and Newgrounds, or mobile versions) or where to publicise the game, so we'd need your help with this.

Re-coding and uploading the game to different sites might be difficult. We use Unity, but I'd need to talk to our coder about this (I just do the creative work).

Still looking for more discussion and cooperation! I'd like to thank Krunchy Fried Games. Their games are interesting!

It's kinda difficult to promote an overseas game as an individual in China if it is not going to Steam. But it's a process of learning.
