Mouse is working in the menu but not outside of the menu (I'm playing the Linux version if that matters). Is that intentional?

I've played some clunky ps1 games tbh, but these controls are on a different level. I can't seem to get used to them. 

I understand why some intentional clunkiness might be be put in a game like this, but having an option for more modern controls would so much be appreciated.
