NSFW De-Indexing and what we can do to fix it

A petition has been made and already been signed by 150,000+ people. If we all sign, then maybe we can keep payment processors like Visa and Mastercard (And groups like Collective Shout) from censoring our games. We need to show them that these small groups don't speak for all of us, and that we won't tolerate their attempts to put the things we create down.

Edit - This petition recently crossed 150,000 signatures, and climbing!

So much wrong with this post. How delusional are you?

Excuse me?

Edit - I've edited the descriptor of Collective Shout, does it better match your viewpoint?

Sure, sorry for being abrasive. But the idea that monopolistic banking companies will bow to a petition is what gets me, turning this into a political issue will only divide everyone who should be against these practices.

WHAT THE FUCK? There's not a fucking thing wrong with game developers fighting back against blatant draconic censorship.

If you live in the US, sign this as well, the ACLU has great power to make real change here in the US. And if you use Visa or MasterCard, you should reach out to them and tell them how disappointed you are in what they're doing.

Supported! Anyone know an alternate payment processor we can start using? I'm ready to shred my credit card and get a new one.

has this been posted to something like reddit or other platforms as well? should get more attention to this and also pull steam users who been affected and are as mad as us into the mix

I signed the petition, posted a comment on Collective Shout’s Facebook page, and wrote to itch.io and Visa to let them know about my concern and disapproval.
Here are my messages — feel free to copy and paste them to send to your own institutions:

Movies with murder don’t normalize killing. Video games with horse racing don’t normalize compulsive gambling. And sexual themes in fiction do not increase violent sexual crimes in real life. A healthy outlet for unacceptable compulsions is fiction. Don’t leave reality as the only playground for deviants. That’s not how you keep your daughters safe. No one is against virtue, but claiming that being against real-life rape means we must also oppose fictional depictions of it is profoundly dishonest.

Subject: Stop Financial Censorship on Legal Fictional Content

Message:

I am writing as a concerned customer to urge Visa to stop enforcing content-based restrictions on legal fictional material.

Movies depicting murder don’t normalize killing. Video games with horse racing don’t normalize compulsive gambling. Likewise, sexual themes in fiction do not increase real-world violent sexual crimes.

By pressuring platforms like itch.io and Steam to remove adult games that are entirely legal, Visa is not protecting anyone. Instead, it harms independent creators worldwide, suppresses artistic expression, and sets a dangerous precedent where financial institutions dictate what art can exist.

Fiction provides a safe outlet for unacceptable compulsions. Forcing creators out of digital marketplaces only risks leaving reality as the only outlet for deviants. That is not how you keep anyone safe.

No one is against virtue, but equating opposition to real-life crimes with censorship of fictional depictions is profoundly dishonest.

I ask Visa to immediately stop imposing these restrictions and allow lawful transactions for lawful content.
