Hey folks,
I'm looking for a programmer to help me put together a demo for my game, Genocide KWA, a top-down 2D action game with a roguelike twist. Right now, the goal is pretty straightforward: make a solid, fun demo we can pitch to Devolver Digital. If everything clicks and we feel good about it, the plan would be to move forward and turn it into a complete, marketable game.
Genocide KWA is a fast-paced, stylish action game set in a dark, sci-fi world, where you pilot a sleek and powerful mecha against waves of challenging foes. Inspired by the precision combat and adrenaline-filled combos of games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, combined with the replayability and unpredictability of roguelikes such as Hades, this game aims to deliver intense, satisfying battles that reward player skill and creativity. With mature themes, visceral combat, and a distinctive visual flair, Genocide KWA promises an experience that's both thrilling and memorable, exactly the kind of game Devolver Digital loves to champion.
I've already set up a Milanote board with detailed move-sets, animations, and various assets, so a good chunk of the foundational work is laid out. But here's the thing, I don't have every detail locked down yet, and honestly, it’s impossible to know how everything will feel until we have an actual build to play around with. This won't be a rigid project where you're just crossing tasks off a checklist. Instead, we'll take small steps through the gameplay, refining it as we go, and really figuring out what makes the core mechanics engaging. If the gameplay isn't fun at its core, all the fancy stuff like enemy variety, level design, and detailed roguelike systems won't matter. We'll tackle those advanced features once we're confident in the basic mechanics.
You don't have to know everything, I definitely don't, but you should be adaptable, optimistic, and excited about experimenting. I’m coming from a fine-art background myself, so I’m not exactly a coding expert. In fact, I’m currently looking into learning Unity to make test builds easier, since Unity seems like the best engine choice for this kind of game. Basically, we’ll be figuring some things out together.
You should also be someone comfortable with constructive criticism and open dialogue. I promise I'm easy to work with, but being honest and straightforward will be essential to making this game great. Iterative gameplay design means scrapping ideas occasionally, so a thick skin helps.
If you're into pure action games like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden, that's a huge plus, because that's exactly the kind of slick, responsive combat vibe I’m aiming for. Understanding that magic will go a long way toward making this project successful.
Given the content (violence, language, mature themes), please make sure you're of appropriate age (18+).
Lastly, if the demo shows real promise and we decide to continue, there's definitely potential for us to make some money together. I want this to be rewarding both creatively and financially, so I'm absolutely open to that conversation once we've proven we have something worth expanding.
If this sounds good and you're interested, hit me up and let’s chat to see if we can put our foot through the game industry door.
If you have already done any type of game design/game jams that I should look at, please share below.
