Hey everyone 👋
Long time lurker, first time poster... just wanted to share a little experiment I’ve been working on
It started as a simple idea: can I generate wood plank tiles entirely with code?
No sprites, no painting; just math, color palettes, and some pixel logic.
At first it was super basic (just rectangles and some lines), but after adding cracks, nails, shading, and a few style options… it actually started to look like something straight out of an SNES game.
And here’s where it got interesting:
I realized that generating tiles like this doesn’t limit creativity, it unlocks it.
You can randomize details, remix palettes, and dial in the style without redrawing everything by hand. One tweak and suddenly it looks like a different game. You can explore ideas way faster.
So yeah, this tool started as a test for wood planks, but now I’m thinking… what else can we generate this way? Stone? Bricks? Roofs? Trees?
A whole tileset could be born from a few sliders and a good algorithm.
If you want to play with it, I’ll drop the link below. Would love to hear what you think or see what ideas it sparks.
