Cover Image for Games: Confusing Requirements

I am trying to upload a cover image for a game I am adding. However, no matter what I do, the image is way zoomed in. I have resized it multiple times and changed its format from PNG to JPG. What gives? How do you create a proper cover image?

Cover images on itch.io are expected to be 315x250 in size. I can only assume they're resized on upload if they don't fit. Which of course will make them look all blurry if you then try to display them in the original size again. What are you trying to do, exactly?

Just frustrated with the exactness of the cover image. I went and created a blank image of the exact dimensions required and pasted/centered the image I wanted and the cover image showed up perfectly. Anything but the exact dimensions seems to make the image blurry or zooms way in.

Um, yes, that's how it is with raster images. Maybe try using SVG?

I tried both PNG and JPG to no avail. Is SVG different?

It's a vector image format. It should scale smoothly with resolution. Unless of course you simply embed a raster image in a SVG file, in which case it can't help.
