Horror Game Idea - Looking for Feedback

Here's a short, sort-of, docs for my horror game idea, and I was planning on fleshing the story out first with a writer (paid or collab, either works). This is my first-time making a horror game, so I'm sort of still lost, as to how can I make this work. But if you have some ideas you want to add or pitch. Just drop them below.

For context, I did games before, mostly on 2D Puzzle-Platformers and one turn-based game JRPG. And I have a full-time job but I'm quite intrigued with the recent rise of indie horror games here on itch and Steam, so wanna take a plunge at it too.

STORY:

You are a photographer, camping inside an abandoned house in a forest. Scouting to see the beautiful sceneries, but is actually haunted by a White Lady.

MISSION:

- Search and rescue the missing body parts of the white lady, and solve the mystery of her death... that's actually killed by the villa owner - a guy with an axe.

- Backstory, the girl and her boyfriend was camping in the villa, the villa-owner killed the guy. The girl took revenge as a White Lady, cursing the villa-owner.

GAMEPLAY:

- Search hidden objects, the missing arm, feet, and head will be part of the missing objects

- Lock-door puzzles

- Mix-and-Match

- First-person-shooter for killing the villa-owner

Interesting concept but couple things aren't clear for me:

1. Who is the bad guy here? White lady or villa owner or both?

2. How does player actually solve White Lady's murder? only by collecting her body parts? I think there should be more.

3. Is the main gameplay similar to FPS (shooting enemies etc) or first person walking simulator (no shooting but lots of walking and finding stuffs)?

4. Continuation of #1, what is the failed state of this game?

  1. Depends on the choices you make : Good ending - villa owner, Bad ending - white lady.
  2. Collecting body parts + solving mystery + lock-door puzzles. The "there should be more" part is still in WIP.
  3. It's a walking FPS with shooting (but not the main gameplay), the main gameplay would be finding hidden objects.
  4. You are manipulated all along. ( Refer to #1)

Bumping this thread. And here's a new update! 

Currently studying this asset pack/template I've bought in Unity Asset Store.

The graphics already aligns with what I have in mind. The gameplay of Hidden Objects will be the next thing I will do, so feel free to comment your suggestions or anything, as I develop this idea of mine.

Another small updates:

  • Game will be the same as Ravenhearst of Big Fish Games, but with horror.

Looks neat, but I think it's missing something  really unique. What would you think if the body parts you find curse you and/or give you some super powers?

Nice idea. But my vision kinda leans towards a vulnerable main character with just a faulty shotgun as his/her default weapon of choice. And it wouldn't be terrifying if the players know that they can acquire curses or super powers to empower their characters.

On the second note, curses by body parts might be cool! I'll take note on that. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Another bump to this thread:

After a month of studying this asset pack on and off but still have no clue as to how these errors can be fixed. I tried to contact the Asset Store owner of this asset, but just got a generic reply. The Unity version is 6000.0.26f1.

I think I'll wait and see how it goes. In the meantime, I'm currently developing the remake of my King and Queen.

Long time, new story updates!

Firstly, a new shift in the story!

 And here are some of the new things I am planning of:

  • MC is trapped in a cottage in the forest, due to storm.
  • Why?  Solo camping.
  • In the hidden objects part, the owner of the cottage is a hunter.
  • Makes the hunted animals into exhibits
  • Taxidermy 
  • The Hunter is also known for hunting people on moonlight.
  • Some signs in the hidden objects and puzzles about missing people in the campsite.

Although there's a shift in story, fret not! the will still be a Hidden Object + Horror.

Lastly, still in the planning stages of the development. Because I'm too occupied with our work, hardly given any time to develop this game. Plus, I'm still testing the waters of the 3D and its intricacies like lighting.
