Hello all,

I just wanted to let you know firstly about my game Peek, and secondly that there is now a stable demo ready and uploaded (and one that I was able to cut the file size of in HALF!).

Itch page - https://andymetoo.itch.io/peek

Steam page (Demo build still processing) - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3575190/Peek/

Trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPgVuS0Zx1o

First, a little bit about the game itself:

Salesman pitch: "Peek is an atmospheric, sound-driven deduction horror game that relies heavily on spatial audio to uncover clues. In this ritual-based survival experience, a restless presence stalks the room in tense rounds, leaving audio clues in all directions around you. Close your eyes, listen carefully, and track the direction, distance, and nature of each sound to piece together the ritual and end her pain."

Real person pitch: Peek's a game played entirely in one square room. The floor of the room is a 5x5 grid. The player sits in the center square of this grid and "closes their eyes" while a spirit walks around them in all directions. Using spatial audio as well as other clues (are the footprints on hardwood floor or on carpet?...), you must determine which are the correct relics to put on the correct spaces. But don't screw up too many times!

That said, I've had a lot of progress this week in not only wrapping up the demo of the game but also reaching out to other creators and working on marketing materials and trying to apply for festivals and the like. I never really considered how much extra work goes into this "fun part" of the development process, and I don't really like using my hobby time on these kinds of things, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Aside from that, been working on some post processing stuff and trying to re-do the closed eyelids system.

Thanks for checking it out and you can contact me by replying here or emailing loyalmussy at gmail dot com.

Thanks!

I look forward to keeping you guys updated on my progress, though the game is almost finished (and here's to hoping I remember to come here to post updates!)

4/1 - Updated to fix the tutorial and make it clearer from the beginning. It is now progressive as you play through the round and no longer dumps all of the information on your at once at the beginning.

Added version 0.6 today after some feedback from a YouTube video. Didn't realize the tutorial was a bit lacking and potentially misleading, so tried to clear some of that up! Added a little more polish and helpers for the player to better understand what was going on. Added some backstory to the page, as wel.

Finally finished the demo and the XP system, and uploaded a new build...now with difficulties!

Peek demo now available on Steam! I'd love to hear your feedback! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3626640/Peek_Demo/

New demo update for both the Steam and Itch versions, featuring bugfixes and a bit of clarity for the tutorial. A few sound volume reeducations, as well.

New demo, v0.83 is now up! I took a bunch of advice from some streamers that played the game and used it to completely revamp the tutorial and introduce some new game mechanics, which should hopefully make the game a bit more clear to play. Check it out!

Made a bunch of changes today to try to steer the ship a little more in the right direction when it comes to puzzle clarity. Added a slight tinge of blue when the spirit is close as another indicator, made it so that the spirit only triggers the same squares' sound  once per initialization, so it doesn't double back and hit the same sound twice, and made it so that the spirit has the same starting spot each round, so you can get more used to her patterns if having to "try again". Also removed some ambiguous sounds and re-worded the ritual book a little bit, as well as removed any potentially confusing sounds from the "incorrect" sound trigger.

Lastly, tweaked some spatial audio settings, and I'm pretty stoked with the results. We're not 100% of the way there on puzzle clarity, but getting ever closer!

New Peek update, v 0.85! This version looks to reduce some general confusion on the placement of the spirit, including directional indicators on important sounds, some new candles for shadow casting, and some improved audio cues to help with distance attenuation. I'm trying, folks, and thanks for your patience and continued interest!

As we near release, PEEK has been updated to v0.86, squashing some bugs and adding some clarity to the "puzzle" of the game. Increased visual and audio indicators and helpers help leave the player a bit less lost and confused than in the past...but you'll still have to pay attention!
