Forecheckers Hockey - First Person Arcade Hockey Game.

Hello all,

Just wanted to introduce the project I've been working on for a few months and to give it a simple landing page on itch.  Forecheckers Hockey (working title) is a simple, fast-paced arcade style hockey game, but played from a first person perspective. There is no switching players mid-play as you'd expect in a team sports video game, so you must play as an actual teammate as you scrimmage against the opponents team.

itch.io Page

Current features:

  • 5 shot types (Wrist shot, snap shot, slapshot , one-timer, deke)
  • Manual free-puck control for getting around the goalie
  • Snap-assisted passing
  • Body checking
  • Poke checking
  • Call for pass from teammate
  • Set teammates up for one-timers
  • Simple but competitive AI behaviors
  • 8-directional (currently prototype) player sprites

I've been busy at work lately designing the clock and period systems, and am now happy to report that an entire game from start to finish is possible.  Comments and suggestions are completely welcome and encouraged! I hope to get a very basic demo out in the upcoming weeks to get some player feedback. In the meantime, I'm about to take on the daunting task of getting some sprites in the game to replace the prototype ones. I look forward to keeping all updated here in this thread.

Check out a gameplay video below of unedited footage of an entire (3 minute period) game, in which the poor AI (who is not usually that terrible) gets steamrolled.

Thanks for checking it out!

Been working a bit on the visuals in the game, as well as the faceoff systems and the goal nets. Here's a new short gameplay video (with music this time!) to give an idea of the feel of the game in its current state.
