Making profits in my forbidden country.

Hello 👋

My name is Maykel Fernández, I am 17 years old and I am from Cuba 🇨🇺

Due to certain stupid political problems, Cuba is sanctioned by the United States and is on a list of countries that sponsor terrorism. (idk why)

I learned what I could and now I can make video games and upload them to itch.io from my beautiful mid-range cell phone.

All my projects are and will be free, but developers need support. I cannot receive monetary support, no matter how small, since PayPal and other payment platforms are not supported in my country.

In Cuba, artists and developers use the so-called "payment by transfer." Balance is transferred to Cuban bank cards, or directly to the artist/developer's mobile phone account.

There must be a way to apply this to itch.io without the need to use PayPal or Stripe.

Although I honestly don't think it's possible :(

If anyone can help me I will be more than grateful.

While it would be nice to have additional payment options for a lot of reasons, any additional payment options on Itch would probably not help you. Any new system they would adopt would very likely adhere to the same restrictions in receiving countries, as the other systems. And things like crypto are failing for different reasons, even if adopted, it just is not viable for low amount transactions.

But Itch is such a nice and selfless place that they allow people to post links to other sites. Including patreon and steam. I never saw a link to another store on steam...

So if you find an artist support site that allows money transfers to Cuban artists, you can just post links to it on your pages. If the company is not located in the US, that might be possible.

Although, you should not put too much hopes into receiving money by this. There are many, many people trying to turn their game making hobby into a job, and even with payment over Itch it is very hard. Oh, and being underage is another hurdle, not only for having and managing bank accounts. You might not even be allowed to make money in the first place on Itch. Read the terms of service. Publishers affirm that they are either more than 18 years of age, or possess legal parental or guardian consent

(already read rules) I know I shouldn't be here but I don't want to make money, all my projects will be free. I just wanted to know. Thanks for your reply

Oh you can make money. But your tax interview might be complicated with that guardian consent thing and all. Minimum age is 13 on Itch.

But if you really can make money is another question ;-)

Many struggling artists and people asking how to get popular and all...

like me

I did and now?

(sorry, could not resist the pun)

😂

As expected, the interview cannot be completed for Cuba. But it doesn't matter, video games are my hobby and I will keep it that way.

I am not sure if you understood me. I was not talking about selling with Itch, but collecting money outside of Itch and simply posting the link to that artists donation site on your Itch site.

But as long as you are a minor, this might not be an option, even if you find one that has payouts to your location. Search for patreon alternatives to get an overview. But I could not find out in less than a minute if any of them would do. All the russian artists seem to have switched to boosty, because of restrictions.

i understand now. but first I have to turn 18

thanks
