Mastodon is a decentralized social network with many different servers (instances). From the web interface, each instance may have its own policy on passing referrer information when users click links. Some may pass full referrer data, some limited data, and others none at all. itch.io will attempt to collect anything it is sent, but if nothing is sent then it can’t attribute any referrer information.
