Looking for feedback on the tutorial part of my Adventure Card Game demo ! [Cauldron Caution]

I've recently released the DEMO of my Point & Click x Card Game "Cauldron Caution"https://poishiche.itch.io/cauldron-caution

I've seen people have some trouble on the first challenge and was wondering if it was due to the tutorial not being good enough. As tutorials are a hard thing to get right without an exterior eye, I would welcome any feedback on it to improve it !

The tutorial is divided in 2 parts and ends after the introduction of the Cauldron mechanic.

Specific questions I would like answered:

  • Is the tutorial too long ? Was there too much dialogue ?
  • Were there any unclear indication ?
  • Were there any rules you forgot after finishing it ?
  • Was the first challenge too hard ? (First fight after the tutorial)
  • Were there too much info to digest at once from time to time ?

I also welcome some feedback on more general questions unrelated to the tutorial :

  • Was the game fun ? Would you buy it ?
  • Was the pacing good ?
  • Was the game difficulty adequate ?
  • Were there any parts or mechanics you disliked ?

I like your game. I had trouble with the first real fight because I didn't know how to attack with more than one monster at a time. The card entering the front of the hand and not the back meant I discarded card I wanted and had to play cards I didn't want. The dialog was fine, the story is fun and I like the people... bugs... things. I felt the firs real fight dragged a little. So many cards have "take that" abilities (reduce a cards attack, kill anting it attacks, hurt everything when it dies) It was impossible to have a plan that lasted more than two second which would have been fine if the fight ended after ten rounds, I can see fights getting really long and tedious. Having won the fight and looking back, I don't feel there is much I could have done differently. If I tried again it would likely still take fifteen minutes. I don't get the pumpkin mechanic. I understand you wanted to give the choice to not gain money in exchange for another action. No one would ever do that. It is an objectively bad choice. I could spend an extra action denying my enemy one pumpkin, but that is in most cases also a really bad choice. I would only do that if I was already winning.

TLDR; I don't feel I had any control in the fight. The game was fun in spite of that.

Thanks a lot for your feedback ! You're not the first who didn't know you can attack with more than one assistant at a time. I tried to get more emphasis on it in the tutorial but it wasn't enough visibly.

Did you try out the second part of the tutorial with the cauldron mechanic ? The game is supposed to be played like that so the first real fight can get a bit stale since there's a mechanic missing.

I'm not totally seduced by the pumpkin mechanic either but even if it's not super engaging it works with the rest of the system so I keep it for lack of anything better.

The roster for the first fight can make the fight drag pretty long, I'll try to adjust it to prevent having these long fights. Fun fact, if you know what you're doing, you can easily win this fight "turn 4" making it only last 30 seconds. But it might be pretty hard to see for new players.

I've updated the game to 0.0.10 !
There's now a pop up on turn 2 of the first real fight reminding you that you can attack with multiple assistants.

Some of the debuff cards of the first fight were replaced to prevent the fight from dragging for too long.

I finished the demo and I like the changes you made. The first fight was faster and more fun (maybe that has to do with me having a better understanding of the game). The spells add a lot to the game. I liked the puzzles and finding the tickets (I played a lot of Pajama Sam as a kid). I think the tutorial does a good job of teaching the mechanics.
