Brand new to Gamedev, Itch, Steam etc. Mario inspired platformer hell. This is a test slice.

Making a game I would love to play.  I'm a Mario addict but miss those the more difficult levels.  I enjoy meat boy somewhat and some of the more recent takes on 2D platformers but with those I miss the Mario charm.  So naturally, I am focusing on what I love about the genre in my first game.  It's heavily inspired by Nintendo, but the art is evolving weekly into it's own thing and my imagined world is quite a bit different.  The EGG isn't inspired by Yoshi btw - if you are willing to admit your age, you might remember a game series in the 90s with a wee chap called Dizzy.  He is the main inspiration for my Egg / Ninja hybrid.  The Ninja angle isn't ready yet but each level we plan to have 3 exits.   Your standard platformer path, your HELL platformer path and a "Mark of the Ninja" stealthy ish platformer path.

Anyhoo!  Feedback welcome.  This fairly intense section isn't always this intense :)  Still to work on audio and lots of animations and game juice.  Heck, still to work on everything really.  This is just to see if I can get a feel for the project and see if it's something I wanna keep going with :)  The fixed jump mechanic is going to be vital for our level design, difficulty ramp and the frustrations we hope to inflict as users adapt to the wee egg.

If any of you are interested in seeing progress, I am more than happy to keep this thread updated.

Looks good!

The egg being so small allows for a spacious screen space surrounding the character. I'd use that to your advantage for the gameplay mechanics, in my opinion - for example, having enemies with a lot of physics that can move around the screen, as well as maybe fighting a titan-sized enemy or two. Just my opinion.

Thanks for replying - will keep this post updated with anything worthy of an update.  And yes, big baddies are deffo gonna be a thing as well as wee zoomies who can cover serious distance seriously fast.

Thanks again :D

2 new items conceptualised - an enemy and a possible mode of transport.  Classic procrastination! :D  This is the most fun bit, ideas and drawing etc.  Actually building the game - next level up in terms of motivation.
