Introduction

Welcome to the first devlog of my retro-style soccer game project! I am a developer passionate about classic games, and I've decided to create a homage to legendary titles like Sensible Soccer and Kick Off. My goal is to develop a soccer game with pixel graphics and a top-down view that evokes the golden age of '90s video games.

Current Progress

1. Concept and Design: I started by defining the vision for the game. I want the gameplay to be simple yet engaging, with intuitive controls that allow players to jump straight into the action. The pixel graphics and top-down view will give it a nostalgic touch while maintaining a clean and modern look.

2. Graphics: The graphics development phase is underway. I am creating detailed sprites for the players, the playing fields, and the user interface elements. I chose a vibrant color palette to make the game visually appealing and easily recognizable.

3. Gameplay: I'm working on the game engine and have implemented the basic player movements and ball physics. The goal is to replicate the fluidity and speed of classic soccer games, adding a few modern touches. I've also started developing the artificial intelligence for the opposing teams, aiming to find a good balance between challenge and fun.

4. Game Modes: Currently, I am designing several game modes, including:

  • Quick Match: For those who want to jump directly into the action.
  • Tournament: A series of matches culminating in a final.
  • Training: To learn the controls and hone skills.

5. Audio: The sound department is crucial to recreating the atmosphere of '90s games.

Next Steps:

  • Continue working on the AI for the teams and refining the gameplay.
  • Start implementing special animations, such as player celebrations and spectacular saves.
  • Develop a progression and statistics system to give the game more longevity.
  • Prepare a playable demo to gather feedback from the community.

Conclusion: I am very excited about my project and can't wait to share more updates with you. The road ahead is still long, but with passion and dedication, I am confident I can create a retro soccer game that will revive the emotions of '90s classics. Stay tuned for the next devlogs!
