I very recently released a fully fledged chess game called Grandmaster Chess Elite. 
I included 3 fun environments to play in (an old study, a tavern and a desert island) as well as 3 different pieces set to choose from.  I will be adding more of both, it's quite fun.
It has a very strong AI for single player with multiple levels of difficulty and of course local 2 player mode. Online play will come soon.

Both Windows and Mac versions are included.
