Looking to add Community Manager experience and accreditation to your résumé?
Or to become an extremely valued member of a fledgling game studio?
I have a “retro sci fi” game in development, and am looking for a community manager.
I highly value this element of a game's success, but as this is a zero budget game, I can't offer any financial compensation “upfront”. This would be an unpaid position, until a certain threshold is met in game sales/profit.
I am hoping to build a strong, (and potentially long term), relationship with a positive and passionate community manager.
Your potential percentage of revenue share, beyond the sales threshold, and other terms will be agreed upon during our communication, before filling the position. (Details/timeframe will be provided if/when you apply).
Initially, this would be up to a 6 month position/agreement, and towards the end of this period, you can decide whether or not you wish to continue, and hold/enhance your position and renegotiate. Or instead, move on to bigger things with the experience gained in the position, and my gratitude and support via a positive reference.
Obviously at a base level the role will be to plan, and manage, our various channels for the game/studio, interact with our community, post updates, and generally help drive engagement.
You will be given enough information and insight into the game's design, progress, and sales, to provide you with the autonomy to respond to the majority of community questions, suggestions, and complaints. Also, you will be, to some extent, a games tester. Given access to alpha builds prior to “press release” builds etc. This will go towards ensuring you have a decent knowledge of the game when responding to the community.
Your full involvement, and potentially expanded roles, can be discussed by contacting me at the address below.
The following are some required and preferred skills/traits that I am looking for.
Requirements :
- 18+
- English speaking.
- Must be available in a more “intensive” role during a 2 month window, covering the lead up to release, and the first month following release. (Currently penciled for July/August 2024). This is to avoid the game's release falling on a date where you may have booked a vacation etc.
- Positive energy, but the ability to remain calm, and detach yourself from the less than savory comments that inevitably arise on all digital platforms/forums.
- Have a decent, (not necessarily top tier), streaming/recording setup.
- Comfortable recording/being on camera - after all, you will essentially be the “face of the franchise”. (This will likely be fairly infrequent, but important if/when necessary).
- Enjoy planning and managing a range of social accounts.
- Able to periodically present and discuss your ideas, and the community feedback with me. (Primarily via messaging, but occasionally video calls).
Preferable :
The more you can bring to the table, the higher the agreed revenue share will be.
- An interest in science fiction and concepts of space and time. Although not a “requirement”, I am sure it would be beneficial for you to be aware of the theme of the game, and ideally be a fan of sci-fi. There are various other themes and references from games, movies, music, anime, art, design, technology, and more, from the past 40 years, but, it is most definitely science fiction themed at its core.
- Adaptable and obsessive!
By this I mean -
Firstly, you could be considered a “variety gamer”, and enjoy adapting and learning to play anything, from cute mobile strategy games, to sports games, from artsy conceptual indie games, to AAA blockbuster arpg's.
Secondly, you naturally “get in to”, and obsessively geek out about, a subject/genre and enjoy exploring existing communities and traditions within gaming niches.
- Some editing knowledge/experience, (videos/clips etc for social media/channels). This is not a requirement, raw video/audio footage can be edited and formatted, and templates provided for publishing, if this is not in your skillset.
- Proactive and ambitious nature. I would value and respect your drive, and look to provide both goals and incentive to encourage expansion of your potential role in the future. Or support you in any way I can, if you instead decided to leave, after our initial agreement.
- A researcher/assistant mentality. Again I must stress this is in no way a requirement, but If you enjoy being given a topic to investigate and analyze, and present your findings, it could be beneficial and further enhance your potential revenue share.
For example one of the first “tasks” I would ask of you, would be to produce a list of the various social platforms we will exist on, the format of the content, and the engagement type (news/update blog, short, thread, community responses etc). Also how sharing/posting/management and admin rights function on those platforms.
If you’re ambitious; (and have read this far!), and planning, managing, and presenting information like this is just something that's in your veins, I really hope you contact me!
I look forward to hearing from you! Please email polygon.workshops@gmail.com with the title "Community Manager Enq", and in the body include your preferred name, pronouns, and also your geographical location/timezone.
Provide an informal statement about any relevant experience or interest in gaming, social media, content creation, and community management you might have. Basically a little summary of who you are and where you’re at, relevant strengths and weaknesses, and we’ll go from there. If communication goes well and it “feels right”, then we can move forward with an agreement - and start discussing details of the game, and the journey to release and beyond!
