Wow, I found the case: I backed up my text in the meantime, including the image tag, but in a different text editor (Zim) this created an odd character, invisible in browser:

I had got rid of the first image tag, but copied back this odd character (representing the old image as bytes? it’s too small to be so, but maybe it contained the URL to the old image which was too big indeed)

After erasing the invisible character, the bug was fixed in both jam and main game page (which also prevented posting comment with big picture).
