Questions!

I just gave this a quick read through, and I have some questions.

  • How do you make a roll if the situation is neither "in your favor" nor "really dangerous"?  Or does it always need to be one of those?
  • What is the starting Cutting Sleeves value? Or do we fill in a circle each time we use it? (Which I guess makes the starting value 3) Also, the character sheet spells it 'Cutting Sleves" which is probably an error.
  • It feels like getting worse at your skills as a result of helping people is going to disincentivize people from helping them?
  • Once you break down, how is that cleared? Does it go away if you clear a condition? What if no one has any Cutting Sleeves left?

Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

Thank you for showing interest in the game!

Please notice that the project is in progress, so some of the answers that are given for the Beta 1.1 could then differ for the final version of the game.

  • Yes, the roll should always be in your favor or dangerous. This is a choice made in order to help obtaining a Divinity or Humanity point.
  • The starting Cutting Sleeves level is 3, as indicated on the character sheet. Anytime you use it, one of them gets canceled. (Thank you for pointing out the typo, we will try to fix it as soon as possible).
  • As for the two last questions, the answer is similar. At the current state of the project, the game is designed to last only one session. It has been playtested keeping this in mind. It is true that players may prefer not to help each other, but in some occasions it should be necessary. And given that the character ends their story in 1-3 hours of time, I liked to give the thrill of 'falling' or 'ascending' in just one session. This means players must play along with this rule, even if it is not advantageous for them.
  • As for the conditions, I considered once again a span of 1-3 hours game session. There is actually no way of clearing the Breakdown if it occurs, but this leads to that taste of 'defeat' that sometimes occurs in the narrative genre taken as reference.

A little note: we plan to release the final version after having made some adjustments, so your questions are very precious to us. Also, the game will have further updates on how to play structured sessions, campaigns, structured battles, etc. So your doubts may be better explained in the future.

Thank you once again and I hope this helped you!

Thanks!  Those answers make sense with the added context!
