Dungeons & Dragons but for Tasks!

What if instead of finishing tasks we thought of our todo lists as a mob of monsters ready for slaying?

Over the last few months I've been working on a system to help keep people motivated and on track as they seek to finish their never ending list of todos. When people normally say "gamified" they usually mean "we have points and badges" however a lot of gamified apps miss out on many major parts of gamification.

With the system I'm making, Dayquest, you'll be able to continue using the same todolist or task management tool you use everyday BUT be able to turn it into a quest!

To do this I've been documenting (like a table top game) a "rulebook" that will explain:

  • How to turn tasks into monsters
  • How to track points earn for monsters slain
  • How to use your tracked points to rank up from Copper to Bronze to etc

As I finish up the basic task management rulebook I'm planning to release another more extended guide about how to use the system to do project and goal management with a gamified spin.

Any feedback on the concept is really appreciated!

Key Question

  • What'd you think of the idea/description?

It sounds like a good idea. Game devs are experts at rewarding people for stuff that, frankly, doesn't matter. Applying the same tools to people's real lives definitely makes sense. Pokemon Go and Wiifit were great examples of how video game techniques could be applied to people's real lives to help get people walking and exercising more.  Applying this to daily tasks might genuinely help people.

Nice website landing page!

So am I understanding correctly that Dayquest will  be like a front-end to whatever to-do list software/app we currently use? Sounds interesting but I'm curious how one would successfully integrate the two.

I've been using this app called "Bounty Tasker" every day for the past few years and it has similarities to what you're trying to do. It's a  gamified to-do list complete with loot, monsters and a leveling system.

Though the "Bounty Tasker" app hasn't been updated in about 4 years and the allure of the gamification has worn off, I use it daily because it is still a fantastic and , most importantly, simple to-do list. I've tried stuff like Trello and was utterly put off by all the bajillion things you could do. One shouldn't need a tutorial for a to-do list.

I think the idea of gamifying task management is a great one. I've used a few different productivity apps in the past, and I've found that the ones that have a more gamified approach are the ones that I'm most likely to stick with.

I like the idea of turning tasks into monsters. It's a fun and creative way to think about things, and it can definitely help to motivate people to complete their tasks. I also like the idea of tracking points and ranking up. It's a great way to give people a sense of accomplishment and progress.

Overall, I think Dayquest has a lot of potential. I'm excited to see how it develops.
