Description

Landfall is a game about exploring an alien planet and uncovering the history of the area and the inhabitants. Along the way you'll discover native flora and fauna and relics of the previous inhabitants of the world. Using your scanner you will be able to build a scanlog of everything you discover. Through your journey around the world you will uncover hints to the event which has left the land ruined and barren. This game is built for people like me,  who enjoy to explore new worlds and seek to discover something new around every corner.

Background

I've been working on Landfall for the past year. It started as a small project which would be used as a way for me to test my MSc level design pipeline for my portfolio, however I managed to get a job and decided to expand upon the initial idea.

Features

  • Compile a Scanlog of the local Flora and Fauna
  • Battle hostile creatures as you travel throughout the world
  • Explore a vibrant and interconnected map
  • Delve into the winding  labyrinth below the overworld, populated by dangerous enemies
  • Revisit areas to uncover secret locations
  • Unearth tablets which detail the history of the mysterious world

Progress

Progress hasn't been as fast as I was hoping because of work commitments which makes building the game slower than i was expecting. However the majority of the game is complete now. I would estimate at time of writing (23/08/18) the game is 65% complete. The combat and enemy AI needs refining and the last few small areas need implementing along with the boss battle and the last of the flora and fauna. After this it will be final bugfixing and introduction cut-scenes and the game will be finished.

The soundtrack has also been mostly finished by Tom Garnerand its sounding so wonderful, its got a lovely ambient synth vibe which works so well for this game. He will be releasing the full OST alongside the release of the game.

Platform and price

Landfall will be available on itch.io and available for free with optional donation. There will also be a development eBook detailing the designs and development of the game which will be available for a small fee if anyone is interested.

Here are the first 2 tracks from the OST for the game. The game has an ambient synth soundttack created by Tom Garner.  There are a few tracks remaining but most of the soundtrack is done and in the game.

Upon release of the game the soundtrack will also be available online as a pay what you want album.

Here are a few updated shots of the game in action, the main weapon has been completely overhauled and I've been working though each area, adding new props and detailing assets. Alongside this I have been working on the Variant system, certain creatures now have alternate versions which can be found in the different biomes throughout the game world.

Here are a few of the little variants hopping about together!

The OST for Landfall has been finished, 12 tracks full of ambient synthy sci-fi goodness. Tom Garner has done a wonderful job and I cant wait for it to be released into the world upon the release of the game. Heres another sample track from the full soundtrack:

Here is another track from the OST, this time for the Crimson Forest, open plains are interwoven with the canopy of massive mushrooms and blood red trees.

And here is a peek at the jump pads, I wanted a new way to travel around when revisiting areas which could help the p[layer when attempting to finish their scanlog.
