What happens if I don't finish a game for a game jam or miss the deadline?

I was thinking about joining a game jam but I'm a bit unsure on what happens if the game is incomplete, I don't end up creating a game or miss the jams deadline, would I upload what I do have or would it be better to not upload? also are there any punishments for not uploading, or uploading an unfinished product? Thanks in advance

You only submit once you have something, so if you don't end up completing something for a jam then no worries. There's no obligation to finish. You're welcome to keep working on your project afterwards, you won't be able to submit to the jam but you can still upload the project to itch.io.

Ok thanks for clearing it up for me.
