The best method to double check asset names?

I am in the process of making a new game, and have the story and a list of enemies, characters, weapons and collectibles typed up.

I wanted to try using some clever names for some of these assets however I want to make sure that the name isn't taken in another game to avoid copyright.

How do you guys figure out if a name is available or is there a specific database you use to check?

Titles can't be copyrighted, only trademarked. Either way, you'd have to check with the respective offices in a lot of different countries. Luckily you're not expected to. Run a thorough web search; it's called exercising due diligence I think. If something similar is out there, it should come up, and then you can decide what to do.

thanks for the explanation. I wanted to have some interesting names that would fit the story.
