Short-Term
Hello,
For most practical purposes, I am relatively new to Unity, but I have an idea that won't leave me alone. So, I am looking for a game development partner to help me bring this idea to life. That said, I see this collaborative effort as having a few potential paths...
- [ Bumbling alongside someone with a similar level of Unity experience to lay the foundation of this project ]
- [ Assisting someone of equal or greater Unity experience with their project(s) ]
- [ Splitting workloads between our respective projects to progress both ]
At this time, I'm not terribly worried about having non-trivial art, animations, or models. I plan on prioritizing those elements later on. (However, don't fret! There is a desired art direction, and I can provide samples I've discovered to give potential partners a sense of the game's direction.)
The short-term skills I'm looking for are...
- Unity experience or willingness to learn [ As a gauge, if you can spell "Prefab" and "script", you're liable to show me a thing or two ]
- User Interface (U.I.) experience [ I don't foresee us doing anything novel, but there will be clicking and highlighting ]
- A mind for game design [ I have strong opinions that are loosely held, and I invite partners that are as flexible as they are focused ]
If you've reached this point, then you have a right to know that I'm envisioning a game in the spirit of Armello with less features. So, the core "foundation" that I mentioned earlier is just the single-player turn-based logic with at least one other A.I. agent. I'll happily go into further detail with my development partner, but Armello is definitely a great place to start.
If you have an inkling of interest in helping me fulfill the short term aspects, then feel free to reach out. We can have a discussion or two, and then start moving things along.
Long-Term
If you require a long-term view and a better sense of my background to convince you, then continue reading.
My background is in S.T.E.M. And, I'm removed from game design on a day-to-day basis, but I would like to try this out and see where it goes. I've spent too much free time thinking about progressing this project instead of just tackling it. I can't draw a straight line with a measuring stick for $1,000. But, I can stitch together some fairly ugly code, kick it a few times, and get it to produce something. Producing the right thing, however, takes many more kicks.
Long-term, the project will need...
- Game A.I. [ Something I might actually be able to do a few tricks with due to my day-to-day ]
- Networking [ The final product should allow for multiplayer. And, I bet it's harder than it looks, which is bad because it looks darn hard ]
- (Long long-term) Online multiplayer via dedicated game servers with potential for cross-platform play
- Decent-ish art [ Otherwise, it's grey cubes and capsules all day ]
- Marketability [ After all the suffering and tears, we'll be able to treat ourselves to burgers...with extra cheese ]
Closing comments, the title has tags for Unpaid**, Unity, and Programming. However, that's only true for this moment in time. I plan on this being a highly collaborative effort over time that will do everything it can to reward its contributors. (Because I, VE Corey Giovanna, have a dream!)
** If you are somehow persuaded by a burger without cheese once every 2~3 months, payment of that variety can be negotiated.
TL;DR:
I'm looking for a partner( or partners) to help me create a game in the spirit of Armello that has less gameplay features but places an emphasis on a great "Day 1" gaming experience.
