Donations, payouts, and taxes questions

I am new to itch (hello all) and still figuring this out but I am confused on this topic. I will be uploading a game that is free to download. There will however be possible donations. I get a message saying that the game wont be able to be downloaded if the price is greater than $0 and to set up payment methods. Its free so that implies that I don't need to set up payment info. So what happens with donations? how would I get them? Does that require filling out the w-9 form and tax information? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hello,

If you don't set up payments on your account then no one will be able to send you any money for your project. You need to go through the payments setup in order to allow donations.

If you receive payments from us the you need to complete a tax form, even for donations. If you are a registered non-profit then you can use the tax documents we create at the end of the year in order to declare your tax deductions. (Note this is for United States, which I'm assuming you're in because you mentioned a w-9)

Thanks

Thats what i figured but I just wanted to double check. Thanks for the reply!
