Hey everyone, I have been making my first game now for about 54 days using Game Maker Studio and wanted to share some videos and images. The game is almost done and I plan on sharing it here on itch.io for free on JUNE 20th 2022.

Here is the games current trailer:

Originally my idea started off as a sample animation I made of a chicken firing an egg at a bullseye target and showed it to some friends and had a good laugh.

Then one friend suggested I turn it into a casual game and see what happens. About a week later I started making the game using UNITY which I have used before but I was only using it for 3d world build and didn't do any coding so I was running into problems right away. I was going to hire a coder but was told I should try out game maker studio instead and after a few days I had a good chunk of my character animations set up and programmed in.

I have to admit that I owe Shaun Spalding a huge thank you for all of his tutorials on Youtube as well as random posting on reddit and the GMS forum for helping me program the game.  I figure after I publish my first game I am going to jump right into the next one and making something a little more complex like having my character run around and jump and other things you would expect from a "real" game and of course I will start a new topic here to show more progress over a longer period of time.

Thanks for reading.

Great looking first game! Setting a release date is a fantastic way to fight against feature creep and make the hard decisions. Looking forward to playing it when it's out!

Thank you so much! Yeah I heard feature creep is a problem so I had to force myself to rethink a bunch of things. One thing no one mentions is that other people who see your game will also get feature creep and try to pass it on to you. LOL. Thankfully I can't code everything I want just yet so I have an excuse for now.

so, my game is pretty much done and ready to go live on june 20th. I am in the works of exporting it so it can run on MACos and I think it will be ready for the day it launches if all goes well.

I have been busy making adult swim style bumpers for my game.

I uploaded some in game footage today of one of my favorite rooms for my game.

it definitely deserves attention

Thanks! It comes out in 4 days, June 20th for windows and macOS and in a few weeks it should be ready for IOS and android too.

Just a few more days until my first game goes live. It will be available for windows and macOS. Right now I am working on the mobile version for iphone which I think will be finished in the next few days and then I will work on the mobile Android version. Ideally the mobile versions will be finished and available for mid July.

My FREE-TO-PLAY game comes out tomorrow, 12pm EST for Windows and MacOS. In a few weeks it will be available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

Hey, I'm really new in the whole, y'know, entirety of making games. I have a little experience, but the one thing I struggle with is good pixel art. Do you have any recommendations for a good pixel art editor? And also I am definitely getting that game, it looks hilarious and yet amazingly well done.

Hey! Thanks for wanting to check my game out, I hope you enjoy it. My main goal is to make people laugh at least a little while playing it.

So, to answer your question. I have only used 2 programs for pixel art. Photoshop elements( its cheap and does everything I need) and 2d animation software called TvPaint. I mainly used TvPaint to do all the artwork in my game, mainly because I had the software already and have been using it for the past 6 years to 2d hand drawn animation for my freelance work. I like it more than photoshop because I can do things faster in it. When it comes to text and design type stuff I switch to Photoshop because its easier doing that sort of thing. I haven't used it yet, but I want to try aesprite, mainly because it is built for pixel art but more so because it does circles and ellipses very well at any size, plus its like $20 so you cant go wrong.

For hardware, I use a windows PC i built like 8 years ago, the graphics card isn't awesome but it has 64gb of ram because TvPaint works best with a lot of ram)  and a wacom cintiq 22hd (I think that's the model type).

In the end it doesn't come down to the best software/hardware, it comes down to doing the absolute best job you can with what you have.

my game just went live everyone! https://studiodenny.itch.io/chicken-blaster
